Location-
Congress Park is located
at 9th Avenue and Elizabeth Street. The name came from the Act of
Congress that converted Denver’s former cemeteries from Federal to City
ownership.

History-
Congress Park started as Denver’s first city nursery in 1903. Reinhard
Schuetze, Denver’s first landscape architect, imported a variety of
tree saplings and started the nursery to care for them. Congress Park
was renamed Cheesman Park in 1907, the city nursery area was dubbed
Congress Park.
Recreation-
Today, Congress Park offers an outdoor swimming pool with children's
wading pool and bathhouse, 8 tennis courts, 2 informal softball fields,
1 soccer field, 1 playground, 2 parking lots, 1 covered picnic area by
playground, basketball court, several picnic benches throughout the
park, and restroom facilities.
