Location-
Capitol Hill is a
neighborhood in the city of Denver, just south of Colfax Avenue.

History-
Capitol Hill was founded in the 1880s as a new residential suburb for
Denver’s wealthiest families. Using materials native to Colorado such
as sandstone and granite, the wealthiest families built extravagant
Victorian, Tudor and Greek revival mansions. Molly Brown, a legendary
Titanic survivor was one of the most prominent residents to live here.
Her house still stands on Pennsylvania Street and is one of the more
popular museums. The Colorado State Capitol building was dedicated in
1890 and stands on the neighborhood’s far west side at Colfax Avenue
and Lincoln Street.
Recreation- In addition to
the house of Molly Brown, Capitol Hill is home to some of Denver’s best
cultural and entertainment venues. The Vance Kirkland Museum on 13th
and Pearl Street, celebrates Denver’s internationally renowned abstract
painter. The Fillmore Auditorium on Colfax Avenue and Clarkson Street.
Capitol Hill features several small commercial and retail districts
that are within walking distance. The residents of Capitol Hill walk to
coffee shops, hardware stores, grocery stores, restaurants and other
places at 9th and Corona Street, 11th and Ogden Street, and along the
14th Avenue corridor.
