History-
The first inhabitants of the Boulder Valley were the Southern Arapahoe
tribe who maintained the village near Haystack Mountain. The occasional
visiting tribes included the Utes, Cheyennes, Comanches, and the Sioux.
Gold seekers established the first non-native settlement in Boulder
County on October 17, 1858 at Red Rocks near the entrance to Boulder
Canyon. Boulder was part of the Nebraska Territory until February 28,
1861, when the Territory of Colorado was created by the U.S. Congress,
Boulder City grew slowly. Boulder was developed as a supply base for
miners going into the mountains in search of gold and silver. The
residents of Boulder City provided miners with equipment, agricultural
products, housing and transport services and gambling and drinking
establishments.
Recreation-
The Boulder parks and Recreation Department offers recreation
opportunities for people of all abilities. Programs include youth
activities, art, athletics, dance, fitness, golf, gymnastics, pottery,
swimming, tennis, weight training and yoga.
The Department operated
three recreation centers, three athletic complexes, two outdoor pools,
and outdoor park, a golf course, over 60 urban parks and Boulder
Reservoir.
